Olive Branch Nursery – Salem, IN 47167

olive-branch-nurseryAs I began planting garden seeds in February, I was eagerly awaiting warmer weather and greenery peeping through as winter was slowly turning to spring. Spring couldn’t seem to get here fast enough; I tried to rush its return!

Seeds kept being planted, and sprouting. When this routine stopped I had six hundred tomatoes started! Oh, my, what am I going to do with all of these tomatoes, I asked myself? The idea of selling them popped into my mind. That is exactly what I did, moved them to my front yard, and began selling tomatoes.

This is How You Make Up to $93.60 per
Square Foot Right in Your Own Backyard.

The rest is history; I joined a fantastic group of growers and have now added many varieties of plants and herbs to my nursery. Oh yes, I started a nursery!

Olive Branch Nursery is located approximately 45-50 minutes N-NW of Louisville, Kentucky in Southern Indiana. Salem, Indiana is not only my home town it is the home of Olive Branch Nurseries, a small home-owned business with beautiful plants!

“Buy-Local” is the theme now days, it is important for local economies.
Conveniently located 15 miles west of Scottsburg, Indiana off of I-65 and about 40-45 minutes south of Seymour, Indiana, Olive Branch Nurseries is accessible for most regions of Southern

Indiana and Northern Kentucky. We are located 18 miles East of Paoli, IN and 40-45 minutes south of Bedford, IN. It is a short drive from New Albany, Indiana and Sellersburg, IN. We are accessible to Brandenburg, KY, Corydon, IN, Palmyra, IN, and folks along Indiana Hwy 135 and KY Hwy 79. Clarksville, Indiana is a short distance as is Charlestown, IN, Jasper, IN, Brownstown, IN, Crothersville, IN, Borden, IN, Mitchell, IN, Bloomington, IN and French Lick, IN (you could visit the casino after browsing our fine selection at the nursery!)

Most of our plant varieties are perennial; many are fruiting plants/bushes/trees. Grocery bills escalate each year; therefore I feel it is important to produce a portion of our food supply. This is why I am supplying blackberry, red raspberry, currant, pear trees, blueberry bushes, horseradish, quince, kiwi and apple trees, with additions continually. Gooseberry and elderberry will be here soon.

Wanted!  Somebody just like you who lives in your town who can grow
and sell small plants to the folks who live in your town.

Perennial flowers/plants are something I have always liked at home; they return year after year! Olive Branch Nursery’s selection of perennial flowers and shrubbery is unique.

Perennials include: Missouri Primrose, Colorado Yarrow, Fire King Yarrow, many Heuchera (Coral Bells), Spiderwort, Gaillardia, Siberian Iris, Lewisia (Bitterroot), Salvia, Sedum, Astilbe, Rosemary, Echinacea, Thyme, Lavender (Grosso, Mini), Silver Mound Artemisia, Azalea, and Bergamot (Bee Balm). Herbs are favored since I consider myself an herbalist. Most priced at “Only” $4.95.

Shrubs include: Mock Orange, Spirea, Weigela, Burning Bush, Sunburst (St. Johnswort), Butterfly Bush, Hydrangea, Potentilla, Ninebark, Bottlebrush, Sweet shrub, Deutzia, American Cranberry, Variegated Weigela, Coral Beauty, Dapple Willow, Girard Rainbow, Caryopteris (Bluebeard), Old Fashioned Lilac and Heather to name a few.

Evergreen and pine trees, shrub, conifer, and these type landscape additions are appealing. The selection of White Pine, Dwarf Alberta Spruce, Blue Rug Juniper, Mugo Pine, Japanese Black Pine, and Bristlecone Pine help round out selections available.

We have Trees! Brown Turkey Fig, Golden Willow, Red Twig Dogwood, White Dogwood, Black Pussy Willow, Weeping Purple Willow, Mimosa, Corkscrew Willow, Sweet Bay Magnolia, Tulip Poplar, Ginkgo Biloba, and Eastern Redbud are currently in stock.

Thank you,
Kyle Warman

Are you still in business? we just moved to Salem. I am looking for ornamental grasses that grow tall enough for a privacy screen + shrubs that have medicinal uses/ {I’m also an herbalist} We have 1.5 acre and I want to plant the perimeter for a living fence with useful medicinal and edible planting but the top north end has to be shallow rooted so as not to interfere with cable and water lines.

      Shirley,

The best time to plant is really anytime. Trees are always happier in the ground than they are on top of the ground. We plant right up until the ground freezes.
