As You Dig in Your Flower Beds, Watch Out For…

Little White Grubs

Those little white grubs that you find while digging in your lawn or flower beds are not a good sign.

Of course it depends on how many of them you have, but they are Japanese Beetle larva and they are very damaging to your lawn and landscape.

The grubs (the larva) feed on the roots of your lawn and will also eat the roots of ornamental grasses as well.

Later in the summer the larva hatch into Japanese Beetles that emerge from the soil and feed extensively on the plants in your landscape.

The best way to control them is to control them while still in the larva stage, before they emerge from the ground.

Milky Spore is an organic control but takes several years to work effectively.  Or you can buy granular insecticides that will also kill the grubs.

As you dig in your lawn watch for the little white grubs.

Have a great day and stay inspired!

‘Grub worms are a real pest problem, They also attract Moles and Gophers. I’ve tried Granular applicatiions, but it does not seem to last the season and requires additional applications during the season. I will try Milky Spore this season. These Grubs are a real problem. Thanks Mike, Keep the Great advice coming! Have a great year!

My chickens love these ugly things and follow me everywhere (well, almost everywhere, as some places are off limits) when I am potting up plants or digging somewhere!
