Ingredients:
Two Large Cans of Campbells Baked Beans (53-1/4 ounce cans)
One Large white onion chopped up in small pieces
One pound of Dark brown sugar
1/4 cup of Ketchup
Mix all the ingredients together in a baking dish. Mix them together as best you can, but the brown sugar will be lumpy until it’s been baked for a while so don’t be concerned about that. Once you have it mixed as well as you can place in a 400 degree F. oven and bake until it’s start to bubble. At that point the brown sugar is dissolved so you’ll want to stir the beans really well one more time.
Turn the oven down to 350 degrees F. and bake for at least 2 hours, probably 2-1/2 hours. Take them out of the oven and as they cool they will thicken up. Enjoy! -Mike McGroarty from, http://freeplants.com

We make ours the same way, except we add mustard and few tablespoons of Jack Daniels bar b q sauce. Lay strips of bacon on top. Everyone loves ’em ! I grew up in charleston and these are standard side dish at ALL gatherings. Love those beans!

Just a little more info concerning baked beans:
My uncle ran a small bakery near an industrial area in Michigan that employed many people. Approx. 100 gal of beans were baked in his ovens each day so that the ovens would never be idle. The aroma of fresh baked bread and baked beans was the reason that he sold out every day to the folks getting off from work in the afternoon.

Isn’t that a lot of brown sugar?? If I use pork and beans I use more sugar than if I use baked beans. I also add hot dogs so that my grandchildren will eat the beans.

Last time I made baked beans they turned out to be useful as an adherent in the garage workshop. It was like hard pellets in thick glue. Good times. I will use your recipe this time. Hopefully My family will be willing to eat them. Wish me luck. LOL

Sounds mysteriously like Tinkham’s world famous “Cowboy Beans” here abouts we add Jimmy Dean Hot and Spicy Sausage (browned and drained) either a jalepeno or for light weights like me some red pepper flakes. They sound delicious either way.

Who needs all that sugar? There’s plenty of sugar in the cans of baked beans (already added during processing), no need to add more. I am sure it tastes delicious, but…..

This recipe is almost the same as mine, so know it is Yummy! I use pork and beans insteaad of “baked beans” and cook up a little bacon to stir into mine. Might have to cook up some myself!

My Mom used to make these too but she added strips of bacon to the top of the beans before baking & that made them even better yet.
