How to Compost the Lazy Way

First of all, here’s a great post with 23 DIY Compost Bin Ideas.

Who ever thought that one could become addicted to
compost?

I’m serious, I’ll explain.

Check out my “Lazy Way of Composting” Below.

I’m still looking for people who would
like to get paid for growing small plants at home.

***************************************************

When I first started composting I was really just trying
to devise a way to get rid of some weeds, grass, leaves
and sand left over from my plant propagation efforts. But
before I knew it I was really into this composting thing.

There is something magical about running your fingers
through rich, black compost.  Especially when you see how
well your plants respond when you use it in your planting
beds.

I would add my “almost finished” compost to my potting
soil pile and I’d make sure to never let my potting soil
pile run out.  So over time my potting soil got better and
better because it had plenty of time to age.

When Pam and I abruptly and unexpectedly bought a new
house one Sunday afternoon (we weren’t seriously looking to
buy a house at the time) I had to leave that pile of
potting soil behind.  More than anything else at the old
place, I hated leaving that pile of black gold behind.

I thought about that pile of rich, black potting soil for
a long time after we moved.  “I was seriously addicted!”

Now about my “Lazy Way of Composting”.

I love the idea of composting and I really like having
some well rotted compost around to use in my gardens.
But what I am not up to is taking the time to turn a
compost pile.  So I devised a three bin system that
gave me a place to get rid of a great deal of yard waste
and at the same time, turn that waste into beautiful,
black, rich compost.

Check out my “World Famous” three bin system here:

And . . . the best part?  I never had to turn the compost
in the bins.  We’d put the yard waste into one bin at a
time and by the time the third bin was completely full
the compost in bin number one was ready to come out and
be added to my potting soil pile where it would finish
decomposing.  Then it would be instrumental in helping
me produce beautiful little plants that I could sell.

And that made me happy and gave me a really good reason
to compost more aggressively.

So that’s my compost story and I’m stickin’ to it!
