I could use another tiller.
My neighbor has one of these and it is terrific. I would love to win one for myself.
Mike, I entered a comment this week, and I would love have a new tiller, but I saw in the comments that some other people need one more than I do and are on a smaller income than I am. Therefore, I would rather take my comment out for other people to have a chance that need one more than I do.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with all of us and I really enjoy your humor in your writing and videos.
The best to you and your family.
Another great give away. Thanks for a chance to win this tiller. Would really help to get the job done around our place here in WNY.
Laura Cunningham says
I need something that I can use and not have to rely on my hubby to use the big tiller.
Judy Burke says
Dear Mike, a lady named Marilyn left a message & said you were a good man,
I totally agree. Not many people are so willing to share their knowledge and passion so freely with others. You have too many more deserving people than me that could use the mantis! but just wanted you too know how much I appreciate what you do. You have a good heart, God Bless you and your family, including the Donkeys. Judy
Count me in for the tiller. Would love to have that in my garden this spring.

the pink Hydrangea! That is just gorgeous!
Well I sure would love to win this tiller!
I have recently had torn rotator cuff surgery on my right arm,
and had my left arm done in 2014! Degenerative damage was
sited as the cause in both surgeries. I have been an avid
gardener and have hand dug many many beds. It has taken
it’s toll on me over the years I guess! This tiller would be fantastic!!
Dawn Peyer Friedrich says

Thanks for making everything about growing plants in my backyard EASY & FUN Mike . Winning the Mantis Tiller would be icing on the cake. I love your sweet donkeys, too. LOL
Here;s to a Great Season in 2016 for all of us~! Cheers, Bj
I would love to enter my name too if you have no objection at all. I love to win because I am single woman and keener gardener. This will help me in my backyard and at the same time it will remind me of your gift which I will be using during spring and summer. It will make my task easy and in return will help to grow more food and share with poor and needy people in our community. Because of problems with my hands and due to old age it will be very useful for me.
Jim Brischke says
I’ve had an original Mantis Tiller for many years and it’s about worn out. It’s just about replacement time. Winning this new Mantis would make perfect timing.
Frances bischoff says
I would love to have one as my tiller owned by my husband(departed) is too big and i have to garden to be able to raise vegetables and flowers to sell at the farmer’s market for my income. Thanks for all the help i receive from your articles about gardening.
Linda McIntosh says
I may have written you before but my husband just ended our 40 year marriage. I am on disability fpr diabetic neuropathy. I was fortunately given the home and 5 acres, so at least my joining the Backyard Growers club was not a loss! However, my 28 year son is living with me and we MUST have a tiller and time is running out. Thanks for entering my name in the pot
Bob Lester says

Donna Murphy says
I am 69 years old and hoe a lot, but I love to garden. I would love the help of this tiller.
Also love your Forever Pink Hydrangea. Does the color stay or does it need acid?
I have learned a lot from your pages. Keep the info coming 🙂
What a blessing a tiller would be. I grew up on a farm in the midwest and always helped with the large garden. Now with limited abilities I’m still trying to grow things but unfortunately not able to do much with the soil. A tiller would be much appreciated.
Laura Z. says
My soil is really hard. I bought an extra heavy weight shovel and that helps with the digging, but even thinking about it makes my lower back hurt, LOL. I had to use an electric auger to dig holes for the fruit tree planting. So the Mantis tiller would be a blessing! Thanks, Mike, for all your wonderful advice and inspiration,
Gina Osterloth says
We have a non profit community garden and we give all the produce to the low income and homeless in our area. This would be a miracle sent from God! Thank you for making the opportunity possible
Yes!!!! Please let me win this tiller!?! I have wanted one of these ever since I bought a house in 2008 that has 5 acres. I’ve received Mantis flyers, and inquired about them and received more information. It comes down to the price I just cannot afford. You are awesome for all of your free giveaways, and have some very dedicated followers learning all of your great tips, that you can’t find anywhere else. This tiller would give me the muscle that I really need to be able to landscape and create my gardens the way they should be done. I’m a single mom, just one income to spread out on a tight budget. Yet I have these crazy garden dreams that don’t stop, except where I don’t have the muscle or the $$. Mike, you are the best!
Phillip Gosnell says
I sure could use a great little tiller, would be a great tool to have for my root and plant business. So maybe I will be winner of the mantis tiller.

Thanks, Mike! I’m taking the Master Gardener Training and I am so grateful when you show us the practical ropes of how to do things. I always do my research and make sure what I have ready to say to gardeners is scientifically based, ans so far you have been right on. I’d love to have that tiller to mix potting soil, turn over my beds / compost piles. Greatly appreciate the chance to enter this drawing.
I’ve had a Mantis for many years would love to upgrade
Robert Behlen says
My old Mantis has expired, literally. i need a new one. I have had the current Mantis for 15 years.
It really has been a great tiller but all things must come to an end. So here is to my lucky day.
Backyard Growers lifetime member.
Roberta Wright says
I am a 70 year old lady and love to garden. I would love to have the little mantis tiller because I garden by myself and it appears to be the size I would be able to handle. I love reading about your gardening experiences and have loved learning from your work.
Deb Rebel says
Oh I could use one, been sticking all winter. Looking at the heeling beds that need a makeover bad as soon as we get our next warm…. Please pick me?
My son lives 5 miles from me and is alway coming to use my small tiller for his garden. It always seems that when I want to use my small tiller it is at my sons house. This would solve that problem
Margie Willis says
Dear Mr. Mike,
I would like to briefly tell you about my husband who I know would love a small tiller. He is 65 this year I am 57. We have been married for 37 years. We started our first garden the first year we were married. It was under the eaves of the place we were renting. We could only grow some lettuce and radishes but they were a start. We added some pots out front for flowers. Within a few years we had our own place with a nice size garden. One of the people in our church allowed us to borrow her rototiller and it was a great help.
We have moved across the mountains and it is rainier than the east side of the state. We bought a large tiller and used it well. Now it is starting to fail. My husband has had it in for repairs and they told us the tiller is out of business and no parts can be had for it. My told me that he will keep working with it until it can no longer be used. He mentioned that it is getting to the point that he is not sure how much longer HE can keep going with the tiller – it is a rear tiller and very heavy.
He would like to retire when he is 66 but may have to wait till 70 since we have plans to expand our backyard from grandchildren’s toys to a raised garden area. The MANTIS sounds very workable. I cannot use it myself. I have to use a cane when walking. My husband does the gardening and I help by planning things out for him and watch him. We enjoy being with each other no matter what we are doing.
My husband and I bought one on the early 80’s and used it exclusively for 10 yearssin our square foot garden, our flower beds in our wooded acre and. It was a baby workhorse..
Horace Ketchens says
I would love to win it.
I sure would help save my back.
Since most of my smaller beds I break up with a shovel and rake.
This would save me a lot of time.
Well…..I just did my taxes.. It was just a few years ago I started tuning into Mike’s site and odered some things and read his blog site and tried some things he suggested. Im already a tomato grower and have some very large greenhouses and people think just because you have that set up that you know everything there is to know about grwoign everything….not so…..Ive learned so much from this site….this last year was the first year I branched off into some landscaping plant to wholesale seriously….tell ya the truth it was easy money….I had a couple vendors drive up with trucks and load up and they bought EVERYTHING! Thanks Mike!!!!—-hey yu all listen to what this guy has to say….he’s forgotten more than most people will ever know…
Thanks Kathy and congratulations on your continued success!
Just stopped by to read the article on Voles and Moles. Now to find one about raised garden beds. Love your site, articles, etc.

Hi Mike…..I have loved to garden most of my life (now 74) and have grown my own vegetables and have propagated Azaleas., Rhododendrons. Geraniums, and even Avocado Plants (I have one now that is over 10 feet tall). I am no longer able to work with a spade or hoe due to 5 degenerative discs in my lumbar spine and would really love to win so I can get back to tilling my gardens and growing my veggies and preparing my beds. I really enjoy reading your emails and have gained much knowledge from them; Thank you Mike for all that you do for us.
I can’t access the site to register for the tiller. Why?
Rosemary Azevedo-Martins says
my mother owned a Mantis and my husband loved using it. Easy to maintain and operate. I am 4’11” and it is easy for me to work. I am 66yrs so could use a win like this. SS and pension don’t go far when you want and need the added perks for you garden and yardwork.
Randall Hopper says
Wow, this is great!
Mike, it seems i used to be able to access the newsletter and your giv aways without going on facebook or having a plugin. I am not a fan of facebook even though I have a fb page. I am a computer dummy and dont know what a plug in is (grass to stick in the ground?) No, really I dont and I cant aford it if there is a fee. What else can I do? I just received my books. Read the small one, working on the other. I like your plain explainatios.
Thanks so much, Barbara
The contest is a social media event, that’s the only reason that we are doing it, to draw attention to the website. As far as the newsletter and all of my other content, anybody can access that right on the web. Of course the members area is only open to members.
Personally I love to sink my shovel into the soil & turn it over. I’m 71 & retired & still like to do my garden that way. As far as the Mantis tiller is concerned, it’s a great little machine. I had one. I used it sometimes. But mostly it sits in the shed & I still use my shovel.
As far as GIVING something away for gift. I’ll bet 3 out of 4 people on here would rather WIN a MISTING SYSTEM instead of a mantis tiller.
I mean…. how often will you use the tiller in a years time ?????
BUT….. a misting system will be used almost CONSTANTLY year ’round.
Now that is worth winning & having.
Have fun with your new tiller…… whoever the winner is.
Kenneth Drinkwater says
Sure could use one.
A.J. BAHAM says
It would be great if I could win this tiller. Money is tight and I can not afford to purchase one for my garden.
Betty Lamm says
I would love to win this tiller. I had one and it gave up the ghost. These are tough little buggers. I really need one now that all the work is up to me. My husband is no longer able to help me in the yard so this little tiller I surely would love to win. We are in our 70’s. I do not have as much energy as I u sed to have, but still love to have a little garden and a few flowers. Love flowers.
C Cox says

My daughter just bought a home that has BAD soil and 2 acres of it!! I’d love to get one for her. Today was her un-lucky day.She was doing a paper route for one of her friends who has a brain tumor. She leaves Ida. at 2:am and drives 105 mi. Roads are covered with alot of snow and ice and while going up a hill she hit black ice on a bridge over a river, kept spinning around finally hit a gaurd rail that kept her out of the river but totaled her truck! The Cops said she wasn’t the first wreck there this A.M.He got on the radio and yelled at the ID.T.A. that should have had that sanded..
She is beat up some but feels worse for her truck and no transportation! Some times that happens when you try to help a friend.( I’m not adding this on to get a Mantis however.)
Anthony Sterantino says
I had one years ago and sadly, wore it out My “gardn” is the back 20 feet w ide by 275 feet long. I raised a typical ITalian=American vegetable garden, from anise to yellow squash! They are great for flower gardens and just for weeding weeds out of the egetable and flower gardens! They are easy to handle and light weight. I recommend every gardener should have one!

That great little, mighty tiller needs to come to New Mexico.
The perfect home for it!
I would love a better tiller! My little garden has expanded as each year at this time my ideas grow a bit more. It is not big enough to be able to sell from but I give vegggies away to my friends with children and those that are sick. My sister is a master gardener and has stage 4 cancer and is no longer able to garden My goal is to grow enough for both of us.
Thank you for your informative emails!
Sharon Willow says
Would LOVE to own a Mantis tiller! We have rocky, clay soil making it difficult for me to dig in. That being said, I love planting and do my best to add new shrubs and flowers each year to our landscape. A Mantis would be SO helpful and appreciated!

Mike, I get your emails and have for many years. I love to learn from you. It’s always interesting. I am 64 and my husband is 65. Our age snuck up on us and we lost some of our health sooner than expected. He wants to have a small garden and can our own tomato juice each year. (For me) Bought tomatoes have too much acid for me. I feel like I know you. I write a column in our little newspaper. I often have passed on info I learned from you. You are doing a great work, please continue. God bless you. June
Joe Diehl says
I’m not a member of Mike’s Backyard nursery at this time so my entry will probably
not qualify, Retired from law enforcement doesn’t leave one with a grand amount of
finances but I’m very blessed to have it. I’ve tried twice to go through with the membership but got cold feet and backed away. Mike, being the find man that he is,
keeps me updated on the backyard growers information and growing tips and
knowledge for planting by way of emails. THANK YOU MIKE ! Maybe some day soon I’ll be able to go through with my membership. I’m still young at 71 and still
blessed with good health. Thank you Mike for allowing me to share with you and
especially for all the great amount of knowledge that you’ve sent my way.
I appreciate your support and this contest has nothing to do with membership. Everybody that enters is eligible to win.
I have been wanting one for a long time, but when a 74 year old lady is still working to stay ahead of bills, it’s only something to dream and hope for.
Social Security covers my house payment and insurance, so I work to keep up with everything else and buy food.
I’m sure a Mantis Tiller would make my gardening easier and not so physically difficult.
Thank you for being so generous and offering.

Eileen Kemp says
My husband and I are in our late 70’s, and love fresh fruits and veggies. We had a garden plot last year, which we won’t have this year, and want to start a garden here at home. At our age, it is hard to have to do everything “by hand”, and there has been no garden here previously, which means starting from scratch, an this tiller would be so helpful for our starting all over again. Love your articles, Mike, have made copies of many of them, putting together a notebook of my favorite articles. Thanks for being there for us.
Gaylene Burkett says
This would be so great. I have an old tiller that no longer works. Boy do I miss it. I have lots of work for a new one. I would give it, it’s very own position in my tools. Tillers are great gardening workers.

I am the Manitou Springs pumpkin lady. I have 5 kindergarten classes that hike up to my home and plant their pumpkin seedlings after we have had a day talking about pumpkins, seeds, sampling various foods made from pumpkin pulp and seed! I am a senior and prepare the garden for them as well as two other plots for others in my community as I am fortunate to steward a little less then an acre in our small town! The ground where I live can get to be a bit hard. Takes me awhile to get the garden area ready each year. Have heard so many good things about this tiller. Would love and appreciate a try at this.
I had one early mode, but it got away from me. My Mom used hers to garden long after she had to walk with a cane. If you have high raised beds of any size, and need to till in compost or prepare for planting, these cannot be beat — they’re likely to add a couple decades to your gardening ability. When Mike talks about how handy his is, he’s telling it straight.
Karen Pritchard says

Hi Mike, I am a longtime subscriber to your newsletter and really enjoy your informative website. I rent where I live, and have a small back yard which DESPERATELY needs to be tilled (weeds, weeds, weeds!). The owner doesn’t seem to care, and I can’t afford to buy/rent/hire a tiller, so it would be VERY helpful for me to win. Thank you for offering this prize. Got my fingers crossed! d8^)
This would help me continue to do the work that I did before my hip replacement!!
I hope I win because the Mantis is the only tiller I have found that will break up the top layer of clay after it sat all winter . It is a

Would LOVE to have one of these little magicians! Several years ago, I traded my big roto-tiller for a mantis….for one day….and could not believe how manageable it was. Now that my MS is worse….I think I will have to get one. The Doctor told me I needed to quit gardening. Hah! NEVER! If you know of any aspiring gardener near where I live….I’d be happy to give mine to someone who will really USE it!
Love all the wonderful information and things you are always teaching us, Mike. (please let me know, if you have a follower who might be able to use my tiller….it’s not SUPER heavy….but it’s no Mantis. haha. It’s kind of mid-way. And I HATE that it’s not being used)

My husband, Mike, and I are preparing to retire on Social Security soon here in rural Maine. This sounds like the perfect tiller for us and thank you for writing about it. Mike is disabled but from the comments, it looks like something I could actually handle myself. It would be awesome to win it but we will check it out anyway in terms of price and availability here where we live. We need to garden again and do what we can to get by in the near future!! Thanks for the chance to win and just for the head’s up anyway, Mr. McG
Stacey Brooks says
Boy would I LOVE to have this little tiller! I have health issues that no longer allow using a hoe or spade so this would be the bees knees for me. I moved to Denmark 19 years ago, have hunted high, low and in between all these years and never found one. They simply don’t have them on the market here, not online or in the shops… So I congratulate the lucky winner in advance! You will never find a better machine. Thanks Mike for being so generous with giving this gem away.
Patricia Moss says
Would love to win this sweet tiller I am starting a new vegetable garden for the first time and am going to try lasagna type gardening (it worked in the past) but I would love to also till up and try this way. I’ve heard the Mantis Tiller is great! I have no lawn any more (front or back yards) it’s all garden so this would be super to help with the tilling!

Mike I sure hope I win that. I have tried having a garden the last two years .last year was better well ,as far as growing goes the deer they ate all my peas they were coming up so very nice starting to vine slightly like they do ,didn’t have peas on them yet but it didn’t stop the deer from having a feast!!!! But I said last year that I need me a tiller to break up the hard soil . I’m hoping that 2016 is gonna be my year for a garden keep your fingers crossed for me ! I hope I win the tiller to that’s gonna really help if I do . Thank you Angela Q
This is a GREAT machine. Had one in the past.
Tina Tillman says
I bought a well used mini tiller a few years ago, but the engine gave up. My husband, who doesn’t garden or help with mine, put a heavy electric motor on the frame. Now its too heavy for me to use, and the cord dragging along with it makes it useless for me. I really would love a Mantis Tiller!
David D says
Good timming I am looking for a small tiller,to get around plants in the garden.

Mary Lynne O'Brien says
Love getting all your updates, Mike. I joined the Backyard Growers University a while back and my property will NEVER be the same, again!!!! Even looking into excavating a wallapini to grow things year round without having to erect or pay for a fancy greenhouse.
Would really be able to use a tiller like yours. I have an OLD, cumbersome one, A new one would sure come in handy. I’m a single gal in her early 60’s who has now pressed the “reset button” after reading your great website and articles. Looking forward to Spring with a renewed sense of gardening wonder!!

Sylvia Draughn says
Have had a Mantis tiller for about 30 years. Have had to replace the tiller tines one time. Have worked this thing to death. Would love to have a new one. It really is a work horse. My husband and I dug our garden pond using our Mantis. I put our big tiller on Craigslist and sold it. There is nothing this little tiller will not do.

So, since Hubby and I didn’t play the lottery we weren’t one of those lucky three winners – but how cool it would be to win this. We are learning more and more about gardening in our retirement years and it would be a great help! . And, hey, I would even pay the shipping!!
Mary La Fond says
I’m 82, but still gardening. and would be glad to have some thing to make it easier.

I have roughly a quarter acre lot and could find many ways to use the tiller. Already have 4 raised beds and this little beauty would no doubt easily fit inside to work in last years leaves. Also want to work on reviving flower beds and start an in ground garden. A former neighbor had one of these beauties and they loved it. Hope this one comes my way as it really will be used.
Love your emails, Mike. You have fantastic ideas. Am especially intrigued with your propagating ideas.

Judy Nieman says
This little tiller is awesome. We have had one for years and eventually my husband gave it to his mother to use in her flower garden. She is 94 and is able to use it without a problem. It’s great because you can do a small patch or even a larger garden but it is lightweight. Would love to win this because we now have a garden again and really miss it.
You’re right Judy, great little machine.
Donna Long says
I’m starting my first vegetable garden in years…I could use this little Baby to help get me started!

I expect it’s to give up their ghost each time I use it.
The system seems to be working fine so far.
