21 Plants That Are Easy to Grow and Sell Like Crazy

Old Fashioned quality, value, and customer service, located in a peaceful country setting! Brace Land Nursery, Wapwallopen PA is within pleasant driving distance of Wilkes-Barre, Berwick, Mountain Top, Nanticoke, and Hazleton Pennsylvania. They also routinely entertain guests from Scranton, Bloomsburg, the Poconos, and even New York and New Jersey. Wapwallopen is a beautiful, rural community along the Susquehanna River, opposite Shickshinny.

Paul and Jennifer Brace with their 8 plant growing, plant loving children.

Founded in 2009, BLN is owned and operated by Paul and Jennifer Brace and their 8 children. Well, that’s the way it is now. The kids may stage a corporate take-over soon!

Early in their marriage, Paul and Jennifer built a home in the middle of a field, and could not afford the outrageous prices for landscaping plants. So they learned how to grow their own perennials, shrubs and trees… and they got good at it! The business began with the excesses of those early years. But the Braces never forgot the initial need: quality landscaping plants that most everyone could afford.

Just a sample of what you’ll find at Braceland Nursery.

They specialize in the classic selections like grandma used to grow, avoiding most of the overpriced patented plants, believing their customers prefer beautiful plants instead of fancy marketing gimmicks. Within 10 years, BLN had grown to be the area’s premier grower of affordable landscape materials.

The nursery opens to the public around the time the tulips start to bloom in spring, with their famous $6.97 Plant Sales (price subject to change) on Fridays and Saturdays through mid-June. (Always closed Sundays.)

The Brace children showing off the giant mums available every fall.

Late August into mid-October, the nursery is abuzz with mums- gigantic Mega Mums! Working with another local farmer family, they offer outrageously large mums for less than most places sell their small mums. The rest of the year, the nursery is usually available for visitors, but it’s best to call or message first, just in case it’s a Knoebels day!

Upon arrival, the first time visitor may be unimpressed by what looks like little more than an overgrown road stand and gravel parking lot. Upon closer inspection, dozens of stands and aisles of plants stretch into the distance, around the corner, and under the tree palace.

Over 400 varieties of plants, with fantastic posters describing the plant, showing pictures, and including growing tips cover 1/4 acre for the public to browse. Thousands more happily grow out back, becoming accustomed to our NEPA weather to ensure they’ll thrive in your garden. Once you arrive, it probably won’t take long till one of the state’s friendliest and most knowledgeable sales persons greet you: the Brace kids! Don’t let their age fool you: these kids are involved in every aspect of the operation and know their plants well!

Perennials, mostly in trade-gallon (3qt) pots, include bleeding hearts, black eyed susans, coneflowers, peonies, daylilies, hostas… over 200 varieties, with many not found at other nurseries. Shrubs from lilac and forsythia, to rose of sharon and azaleas- about 75 varieties in 1gallon+ pots, ready to anchor your gardens. Berry bushes, too: rasb, blue, black, elder, goji, goose, to name but a few.

Vegetables are offered, but only after the worst danger of frost has passed. Trees include apples, peaches, and pears, or ornamental maples, cherries, mimosa, redbud, and arborvitae.

Ya’ll were super helpful when I had a single table in my driveway.  and just as helpful as I’m working on installing a 300′ driveway with a 1/4acre parking lot, next to a field of tables!  My how things have grown…
