Every year we host a big get together for or Our Backyard Grower Members. I’ve been doing this since at least 2003, it’s been so long I can’t even remember. We’ve just set the date for our 2020 Backyard Growers Shindig. Since this is a members only event we only post the date, time and details Inside the Members Area.
This is a big deal because so many people show up. In reality we try and keep the number down to 50 or less just in case it rains and we all need to duck inside.
Every year we have a blast! 365 days a year we all interact with each other in the members area so it’s really nice to meet in person. It’s amazing how many lifelong friends come from these events. Truly amazing and inspiring.
Duston was busy at the Shindig getting people registered and stuff so he handed his camera to his nine year old son Gavin and asked him to “go take some pictures.” Here they are;
And there you have it! Shindig 2019! We usually have a Backyard Growers Shindig at my nursery every summer, but we also do different events around the country for those that can’t make it all the way to Ohio.
Our goal is to do one in Washington or Oregon, hopefully that will happen this year, a bit later in the year. Two years ago we were in Atlanta.
Membership to Backyard Growers Members Area is awesome! You get all the information you need, questions answered 24 hours a day, a plant deals like you just can’t believe! Japanese maples from $2.50 to $20.00. Really rare and beautiful varieties. At the Very Least, Just Take the Test Dive!

Can you let me know when to prune my roses? I live outside Philadelphia and given the warm winter we have been having they have started to push some new growth. They were not pruned last fall.
Thanks,
Mary Cay

Mary,
Prune them in early spring, probably early to mid April.
