Hi Mike,
Love the donkeys! What breed is your puppy? We have one that looks very similar that was a shelter mutt.. The vet thinks he is Tibetan terrier (we say Tibetan terrorist) because of the tail curl but the shelter said poodle shitzu mix.
Mike says
Julie,
She is Havenese and Poodle.

You stress never to propagate plants that don’t come from a credible nursery stock.
I am curious about native plants which grow wild in my area and are sought after by landscaper’s
I have thousands of live oak suckers growing under a an old oak tree, also have native Yaupon trees both native to the Texas area.
Is there a reason I would not try to propagate these plants and possibly sell?
And is it even possible to get oak tree suckers to sprout as softwood or hardwood cuttings?
Mike says
Steven,
I am not an expert on natives but you are certainly free to propagate those. All native trees are grown from seed. At least almost all. Named varieties are grafted or budded onto a seedling. But you are right, there is a big demand for all kinds of native seedlings. Things like dogwood and redbud, oaks, maples etc. have been sold that way by the tens of thousands for years. When propagating from natives there is no variety name to be concerned about nor patent issues.

Thank you Mike for all the knowledge and encouragement you share, What better way is there to make the Earth better than the way you found it.
If I could only propagate water
Mike says
Thanks Steve!

Love your critters. A couple of my dogs would decide plants I brought home, either a four or six pack of annuals, the dogs would claim one as their own. No matter how many times I would plant those four flowers they would pull them back up. LOL

I bet you don’t even remember what is was like before Finnegan and Fergus! They’re adorable! New baby, Mitzy, is too! Anytime you feel like shooting us some pics, we’re totally ready! Love your animals and y’all too, MIke.

I live in Virginia, I have a steep hill in front of my house and I can’t cut the grass off of it. My question is what is a good ground cover that I could plant there and get rid of the grass. Have to be very low or no maintenance. I love your videos and your content, makes me laugh a lot. Please do something for the ones like me that can’t get around good and need something to keep them growing. Thanks in advance for your reply, William
Mike says
William,
I’d use blue rug juniper but you’ll have to get rid of the grass first then keep the bed weeded for a long time before the Juniper filled in.

You don’t know just how much I look farword to your animals and wish I could see them in person. How adorable they all are. My Daughter had a Mitzy that had to be put down. Looked just like yours. She now has a LabDoodle that is adorable and full of love. When I tell her to bring me the ball she brings it and ties to put in in my mouth like she had it. When she wants something she puts up her paw to give me five. Her name is Sophie. Please keep the pictures coming. Love to all your family and pets XXXXOOOO
Mike says
Thanks Cleo, I’ll do that.

I have a cat named Mittzi, and I used to have Sassy until a couple years ago and her thing was, I would put the throw rug down and she would mess it up, I would lay it straight and she would mess it up. She also used to chew my electrical cords on everything, all that electric shock treatment made her a little goofy!!

LOVE the pictures, Mike! Thank you for sharing Fergus and Mitzy with us.
