‘Blue Angel’ Hosta.

Blue Angel Hosta.
My beautiful wife Pam posing with ‘Blue Angel’ Hosta. This is a giant hosta!

‘Blue Angel’hosta is by far one of my favorite blue hostas. A big hosta like this in a perennial bed covers a lot of area and that keeps a ton of weeds at bay! These giant heart shaped leaves are very slug resistant. We have this plant in full sun. With just a bit of shade it would have better blue color and the leaves would be nearly perfect.

‘Blue Angel’ hosta gets 3 feet high and four feet wide and is hardy in zones 3 through 9.

Blue Angel Hosta, Big Daddy Hosta, Blue Mouse Ears Hosta and even way over in the left corner a Mini Skirt Hosta.

The hosta in front of Pam is Blue Angel, the big one behind her is Big Daddy and to her right are some Blue Mouse Ears Hosta. And way over there to the left of the photo is a Mini Skirt hosta.

Blue Angel hosta is hardy in zones 3 through 9, loves partial shade, will tolerate full shade. We don’t have shade in this part of the nursery so ours is in full sun. It does okay, but it would be far happier with a bit of shade.

Compare Blue Angel to Humpback Whale and Big Daddy.

Can you legally propagate Blue Angel Hosta?

As far as I can see this plant is not patented and the name is not a registered trademark. That’s huge! That means that you can dig and divide them and sell them to your hearts content?

Do I do that? No. I simply buy small plugs for about $2.00 or $2.50 each and grow them on from there. It’s way easier, a lot less work! And I don’t have to dig up my prized plants! Most of our members do as I do and simply buy perennial plugs. Some of the plugs that I buy are less than $1.00 each!

I have one of these in the backyard. It is HUGE. The first couple seasons, the plater area was a little neglected, and it hardly grew. When I improved the bed, it really took off. 5′ wide, 3′ tall, lumber-quality foliage and stalks. All my visitors love the Blue Angel hosta. I need to divide it this fall.

      Bob,

We have all kinds of wholesale sources that many of our members buy from, but I only share that information inside the members area. A test drive is only $7 when it’s open. http://backyardgrowers.com/join
