hi, I’ve just discovered you and I love your videos.
I live in North Mississippi, our soil is soapstone, yuck. We have just built our home to live out our days in. My house is facing South and has full sun most of the day. I planted hostas bulbs in the flower bed in front of the house and they aren’t doing well but we have had a very wet year. I was wanting something low maintenance, perennial, I also planted some Kimberly ferns that I bought from our schools fundraiser. Any ideas what I can do?
    Thanks,
    Denise

      Denise,

Both of those sound like not great choices for a south facing house, especially in your climate. I’d raise the bed with topsoil, then pick a few perennials and a few evergreens that are better suited to your climate. Search this site for landscaping ideas.

Reviewed your advice on hand pollinating squash. This morning the male flowers were open but the female were not. I was able to hand pollinate one female. Why are the female flowers not open? I was out at 9:00 am.
Thank you for your time and response.

      Robin,

Different plants mature at different times. Just keep checking.
