??? not sure what plant you are asking about.
Mike,
I planted arborvitae’s in 1985 around my deck. They are beautiful, still today.
But, I have a serious question. Last summer (2023) I had some workmen “trim” back one of the bushes. Oh dear. I couldn’t believe my eyes. They had cut the branches out all the way back to the trunk. I now have a gaping hole. How can I fix it? Or will it fix itself?
Marjorie, if it gets enough sunlight it will fix itself.
Hi Mike, Like a worn letter from home, I love reading your emails! I am an old Ohioan transplated to the Boston area with a lard garden aroudn my home. YES. 30% vinegar will clean rust off your tools. I throw scissors, scrfew drivers, —you name it and let them soak. Sometimes it takes about an hour, sometimes longer or a second “dip”. But they do clean very nicely. Many uses for that gallon jug of vineagr which I bought YESTERDAY.
I keep my hand tools on a long magnet above my kitchen sink. I found an old pair of Wiss scissors in the dirt and they also have cleaned up…with stains but sharpen nicely.
Keep ’em comin’.
Thanks for the tips Marsha!
do you ship plants in the mail?
Gale,
I do not but tons of our members do. See this video, https://secure.backyardgrowers.com/business-center
I have a bed of phlox, however, weeds are growing up between them and are difficult to remove. Should I cut them all down now in the Fall. Please advise.
Thanks,
Mike B Voluntown CT.
Mike,
Everything in my perennial bed will get cut down soon and the weeds pulled, pre emergent applied and raked in.
Are there any perennials that are low to the ground (for a border) that bloom all summer long?
Patti,
Not that I can think of. Most perennials do not bloom the entire summer.
Hi Mike.
Im an amatuer gardener getting interested in plant cuttings. I live in northern arizona. I have corn, chickbeans, melon, lentils seeding now alongside native grasses and milkweed. I sent your question to Duston, he should contact you today about that order. You can contact him at [email protected] or [email protected]
Beautiful color ! Just what early spring needs ( I know my garden lacks) . Do you just shear to ground level in fall/winter ?
Melanie,
Yes, most get cut off at the ground in the fall.
