Mike, I appreciate all you do to educate us and keep us encouraged. I’d like to put my name in to possibly win this beautiful Japanese maple. I’ve only been licensed since last April but have had a great time selling and growing, and I tell everyone I meet about you and the Backyard Growers Group.

Thanks Mike, enjoyed the Japanese Maple “butterful”. Just potted 100+ of Japanese and Trident maple, Japanese Black Pines and Shimpaku juniper seedlings and cutting used in bonsai which is my hobby. Using your information to help me start a bonsai plant business to subsidize my up coming returning. Cant think of a better way to enjoy of hobby and generate income. Keep the great information coming.
    Thanks again.Tom

    Mike,
I recently purchased your backyard nursery program about a week and a half ago. Although I haven’t received it yet, I have read all of the electronic information. I live in Saskatchewan, so I’m having a hard time finding a source that will ship a small quantity of Japanese Maple Seedlings up this far…any pointers?
    Thanks, Sheila

Sheila, where exactly is Saskatchewan? You really should consider growing Japanese maples seedling to supply the growers in your area.

BJ, I prune mine any time I want. Seriously, anytime they look like they need trimming they get trimmed. The biggest mistake that I see people make is waiting too long to prune. You really should start pruning the same season you plant them, and trim them at least twice a year to keep them nice and compact.

Mike, how old is that tree? I just planted half a dozen 2 year old maples and I’m curious as to how long it will be until they look like that one. Thanks.

Arthur, all Japanese maples act differently. The Butterfly Japanese maple is faster growing than some, but they are slow growing. That’s why they cost so much!

another beautiful example of a great tree for a small space. It always nice to have options for the places that where a big tree just won’t do. Instead of another flowering plant you can have pygmy tree, and evergreens that stay small. You can tell you love the Maples! LOL!
